Brewers Acquire Reliever Joel Kuhnel from Athletics
The Milwaukee Brewers acquired right-hander Joel Kuhnel from the Athletics for cash after placing another pitcher on the injured list. The move came hours after the Athletics designated Kuhnel for assignment.

The Milwaukee Brewers acquired right-hander Joel Kuhnel from the Athletics for cash on Saturday. The transaction followed the placement of right-hander Brian Fitzpatrick on the 15-day injured list. Fitzpatrick sustained a left elbow injury after one warmup pitch in the seventh inning against the Colorado Rockies on Friday.
Manager Pat Murphy said Fitzpatrick has a strain of the UCL. The team plans to seek another medical opinion to determine whether rehabilitation or another Tommy John procedure is required. Kuhnel, 31, posted a 4.21 ERA and recorded four saves in 25 games during his first season with the Athletics.
The Athletics designated him for assignment on Friday. Kuhnel appeared on the Brewers' major league roster twice in 2024 without pitching in a game. His career record stands at 5-5 with a 5.51 ERA across 107 appearances for four teams.
Right-hander Quinn Priester was transferred to the 60-day injured list with right thoracic outlet syndrome. Four left-handers and two additional right-handers remain on the injured list.
