Britain and Japan sign trade and defense deals worth over £18 billion during London meeting
British and Japanese leaders signed more than 10 agreements on Sunday, including a £9-billion offshore wind project and new semiconductor and defense ties, ahead of the G7 summit.

The deals were finalized during Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's visit to London ahead of the G7 summit that begins Monday in France. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Takaichi met at Downing Street.
The agreements include a £9-billion offshore wind farm project and a formal production link between the British Semiconductor Centre and Japanese chipmaker Rapidus. The two countries also launched the UK-Japan Frontier Tech Partnership to channel British research into commercial technology with Japanese investment in artificial intelligence and semiconductors.
Collaboration between Rolls-Royce and Japan's Atomic Energy Agency will be strengthened under the new framework.
The GCAP is a military program launched in 2022 by Britain, Italy and Japan to develop a next-generation warplane by 2035 that will replace the Eurofighter Typhoon. The meeting included a roundtable with industry representatives from both nations. Total trade between the United Kingdom and Japan is currently worth around £140 billion, according to the UK government.
