British-Australian Actor Terence Donovan Dies Aged 90 in Melbourne

British-Australian actor Terence Donovan died aged 90 on Saturday night in Melbourne. His son, actor Jason Donovan, posted the news on social media with his brother Paul. "Our Dad was a huge character, larger than life," the post said.

Donovan was born in London and moved to Australia as a teenager. He began his career as a singer and made his screen debut in the early 1960s. He later played Detective Mick Peters in Division 4 and Detective Senior Sergeant Vic Cameron in Cop Shop, two police dramas that aired in the 1970s and 1980s.

In the 1990s he joined the cast of Neighbours as Doug Willis. He also appeared as Al Simpson on Home and Away. His film credits include The Man from Snowy River and Breaker Morant. In the early 1970s Donovan campaigned for an Australian film and television industry.

He marched in Melbourne under a banner reading "T.V. " The effort produced an obligation on commercial broadcasters to air Australian stories, Jason Donovan wrote. "Without people like my Dad we might not have seen the growth in the industry during the 70s and 80s," the post added.
