British climber completes first ski descent of Mount Ranrapalca southwest ridge
Fay Manners and Italian partner Marco Malcang skied the previously unclimbed southwest ridge of Mount Ranrapalca. The pair named the route Acceso Momentáneo.
The IndependentA British climber completed the first ski descent of a route on Mount Ranrapalca in Peru that had remained inaccessible for more than 40 years. Footage shows Fay Manners skiing down the southwest ridge of the peak, which sits in the Cordillera Blanca range. The route had been considered off-limits because of its glacial terrain.
Manners completed the descent with Italian ski mountaineer Marco Malcang. She named the line Acceso Momentáneo, or Momentary Access. Manners, a former data consultant who now works as an elite alpinist, said the descent required both the right conditions and someone willing to examine the terrain closely.
