British foreign minister Yvette Cooper will travel to China on Monday and then to India later in the week. The visits will focus on global issues including the Strait of Hormuz, the Russia-Ukraine war, and a recent Ebola outbreak. Cooper will meet Chinese officials on June 2 and visit Shenzhen the following day for a science and technology program, the government said.

The plans were announced on Sunday.

UK-China relations Prime Minister Keir Starmer visited China in January, the first such trip by a British prime minister in eight years. Starmer and Chinese leader Xi Jinping pledged greater cooperation on trade, investment, and technology.

meetings Cooper is scheduled to arrive in India on June 4 and meet External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar along with entrepreneurs, academics, and government partners. The two countries signed a free trade deal last year aimed at boosting bilateral trade.

India's trade secretary Rajesh Agrawal said last month that implementation of the deal has faced hurdles over Britain's new steel import curbs. The British government said the engagements with China and India will focus on tackling major global challenges.
