British Man Serving Sentence in Iran Gets Two More Years for Media Contact

Craig Foreman, a British man serving a 10-year sentence in Iran's Evin prison, was informed this month that two years have been added to his term for speaking to the media, relatives said. Foreman and his wife Lindsay were arrested in January 2025 while passing through Iran on a motorcycle journey from Europe to Australia. Both deny espionage charges.

They received 10-year sentences in February 2025. Joe Bennett, Lindsay Foreman's son, said Foreman was told he was being taken to see his lawyer but was instead brought before a judge and given the additional sentence. Bennett stated that Foreman was allowed no lawyer, no translator and no opportunity to defend himself.

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office said it is urgently following up with Iranian authorities about the reported increase. The UK government has described the original 10-year sentences as completely appalling and totally unjustifiable. Both Foremans have been on hunger strike since May 2026, when prison authorities stopped them from calling their families.

Craig Foreman has lost about 16 kg, according to information received by HRANA, while Lindsay Foreman is suffering from dizziness and body tremors. A letter asking them to end the strike and supplies including medication have not been delivered, the family said. Last month two United Nations human rights experts called for the couple's release.

UN special rapporteurs Dr Alice Edwards and Mai Sato stated that Lindsay and Craig Foreman should not be in prison and that proceedings against them failed to meet basic fair trial guarantees. The Foreign Office has advised against all travel to Iran since 2022.

On Monday the UK appointed former Conservative MP and Middle East minister Alistair Burt as its first envoy to support British nationals detained abroad in complex cases.
