news.sky.comA British man who has walked around the world since 1998 has been denied access to the Channel Tunnel for the final leg of his journey. Karl Bushby reached Belgium after covering roughly 36,000 miles on foot. He applied to walk through a service tunnel under the English Channel but was turned down by Eurotunnel.
Eurotunnel rejected the application yesterday.
The company cited safety risks and operational disruption from closing the service tunnel for up to two days. A spokesman said access is tightly controlled and any activity requires detailed planning and specialist support. The firm added that protecting passengers, staff and infrastructure remains its top priority.
“Access is also tightly controlled and any activity within it requires detailed planning and specialist support.”
Bushby previously swam the Bering Strait in 2006 and the Caspian Sea in 2024. He expects to arrive in Calais by September. Bushby plans to finish at his childhood home in Hull.
