Shields stated that beauty for her has meant being smart and strong. She acknowledged physical changes that come with age while maintaining that beauty extends beyond the absence of wrinkles. She said she has learned to laugh at some of the insecurities that arise when watching herself on screen.
Shields noted that she now requests body doubles for certain scenes, a reversal from her earlier career when she had them.
Shields posted photos of herself in a bikini last summer to mark her 60th birthday. In January 2025 she said on Good Morning America that she has earned the features on her face. She added that she wants to look her best and remain healthy while accepting that she is no longer tied to biology in the same way as before.
Shields has previously said she is scared of not looking like herself after procedures such as Botox.
