Brown University announced Tuesday that the interim dean of its School of Public Health will assume the permanent position effective June 1. The appointee is an alumna of the school who has served on its leadership team for five years, including as academic dean.

The individual has also provided addiction treatment services through a mobile recovery unit operated by CODAC Behavioral Healthcare in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.

The appointment follows the departure of the previous dean in December 2025. The new dean has held the interim role since January and participated in the university’s response to a campus shooting that occurred the same month. University officials said the appointee has focused on the intersection of pain management, the opioid epidemic, and acute trauma recovery.

The individual has held joint faculty appointments in epidemiology and emergency medicine since joining the university in 2010.

As dean, the appointee will oversee four academic departments, 13 research centers, seven master’s programs, four doctoral programs, and undergraduate concentrations in public health and statistics. The role also includes expanding the school’s faculty and research portfolio.

“I feel privileged to lead the School of Public Health as it moves into its next era with an unwavering focus on generating knowledge, training leaders and building partnerships that allow Brown to respond to the world’s most urgent health needs,” the appointee said in a statement.

University officials described the appointee’s record of supporting public health solutions with a commitment to local impact.
