Andrew Berry said the Cleveland Browns remain open to retaining quarterback Deshaun Watson beyond the 2026 season. The comments came during a radio appearance.
yardbarker.comCleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry said the team has not ruled out keeping quarterback Deshaun Watson after the 2026 season. “I think everything is on the table,” Berry said. “I think you have to be open-minded and flexible.
Berry added that the team evaluates players based on their progress. “I think you deal with what you have,” he said. ” Watson signed a fully guaranteed five-year, $230 million contract with the Browns in March 2022 after the team acquired him from the Houston Texans.
He has made 19 regular-season starts for Cleveland. Watson has not played in a meaningful game since suffering a torn Achilles in October 2024. The starting quarterback competition between Watson and 2025 rookie Shedeur Sanders will continue through at least the preseason opener at the Chicago Bears in August 2026.
First-year head coach Todd Monken will oversee that process. Berry was asked whether co-owner Jimmy Haslam’s earlier statement that the team “took a big swing and miss” in acquiring Watson would affect how Monken handles the quarterback room. Berry said public discourse does not factor into roster decisions.
“Honestly, the public discourse doesn’t really have a factor in terms of how we think about putting together the team, with Todd, in terms of putting together the best lineup,” he said.
