Browns Trade Garrett for Verse and Multiple Draft Picks
The Browns traded Garrett for Verse and additional selections. The deal followed a March contract restructure that spread Garrett's payments across two seasons.
CBS SportsThe Browns traded Garrett to the Rams for Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, and additional selections still being finalized. Garrett set the NFL single-season sack record with 23 sacks in the 2025 season and won the Defensive Player of the Year award for the second time in three years. He was the top overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and has been named a five-time first-team All-Pro.
Garrett's contract averages $40 million per year.
The trade followed a contract restructure agreed to in March 2026 that moved option bonus payments from March into late summer, creating a $9 million dead cap hit across two seasons rather than absorbing it all in 2026. Verse was the 19th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and won the Defensive Rookie of the Year award that season.
He has recorded 12 sacks through two NFL seasons and ranks fifth among all players in quarterback pressures since 2024 with 143 pressures.
The Browns have won just eight games since reaching the playoffs in the 2023 season and finished the 2024 season with a 3-14 record. Garrett demanded a trade during Super Bowl week in 2026 before signing a four-year, $160 million deal in March. Browns general manager Andrew Berry said in late March 2026 that Myles is a career Brown and one of the faces of the organization.
The Rams previously traded a first-, third-, fifth-, and sixth-round pick to the Kansas City Chiefs for Trent McDuffie ahead of free agency in 2026. McDuffie signed an extension that made him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL. The Rams used their other 2026 first-round pick to draft Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson.
Matthew Stafford, 38, signed an extension worth $55 million in new money less than two weeks before June 1. The Rams are scheduled to host Super Bowl LXI in February 2027 at SoFi Stadium. They won Super Bowl LVI following the 2021 season. The Rams previously sent two first-round picks to Jacksonville for Jalen Ramsey by 2021 and two future first-round picks for Matthew Stafford.
At the trade deadline, they dealt a second- and third-round pick to Denver for Von Miller. They have Davante Adams and Puka Nacua at receiver, with Nacua due a major-money extension this offseason that will eclipse the $40 million-per-year mark. The Raiders received two first-round picks, a third-round pick, and a sixth-round pick while sending a second-round pick and a conditional fifth-round pick when trading Khalil Mack 18 months after he was named Defensive Player of the Year.
The Packers sent two first-rounders and Kenny Clark to acquire Micah Parsons last year.
