Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman appeared on a radio program Sunday and called on New Yorkers to back his gubernatorial bid. He linked Democratic incumbent Kathy Hochul to socialist policies advanced by Zohran Mamdani. Recent primary results showed several Democratic Socialists of America candidates prevailing in House and state races.
nypost.comNassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, the Republican candidate for New York governor, said Sunday that voters must support his campaign to counter what he described as socialist influence in state government. He spoke during an interview on 77 WABC radio’s “Cats Roundtable” program hosted by John Catsimatidis.
Blakeman stated that the only way to save the state is to back his candidacy because the Zohran Mamdani wing of the Democratic Party hates America.
He added that these figures pose a danger to the state and the country and must be stopped. He quoted Winston Churchill to describe communism and socialism as shared misery under Hochul and Mamdani. The comments followed primary victories by several Democratic Socialists of America candidates.
Darializa Avila Chevalier defeated five-term incumbent Rep. Adriano Espaillat in the 13th District. Former DSA member Brad Lander defeated two-term incumbent Rep. Dan Goldman in the 10th District. DSA member Claire Valdez won the Democratic primary for the vacant Brooklyn-Queens 7th District seat.
DSA candidates also won all but one state legislature race in New York last week. Blakeman cited New York electric bills that are 70 percent higher than the national average and $8 billion spent on undocumented immigrants. He criticized the New York City Rent Guidelines Board’s approval of a rent freeze on one- and two-year leases for 1 million government-regulated apartments.
He noted that the city has 80,000 vacant apartment units and said the policy would discourage maintenance and lead landlords to abandon properties. A Siena College poll released last week showed Hochul leading Blakeman 52 percent to 32 percent.
