Jill Maepea, a Fredericton-based meteorologist with Environment Canada, said it is not unusual to see 30 C days in May. She noted that several locations broke records by several degrees. Environment Canada issued frost advisories for the entire province for early Friday morning.
The advisory states that most of the province could see temperatures between 0 C and 2 C on Friday morning. Northwestern areas may reach between -2 C and 2 C. Maepea said frost advisories are issued when ground frost and temperatures near or below zero are expected.
Maepea said the large temperature swing is part of the transition from winter to summer conditions. She added that the rest of the week will feature below-seasonal temperatures, with highs between 15 C and 17 C. Temperatures are expected to return to near seasonal levels for the weekend.
