The Buffalo Sabres acquired defenseman Olen Zellweger from the Anaheim Ducks on Friday in exchange for prospect forward Anton Wahlberg and a second-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, ESPN reported. The trade occurred three days after the Sabres sent defenseman Bowen Byram and forward Jordan Greenway to the Chicago Blackhawks for the No. 45 pick in this year's draft and defenseman Louis Crevier.
Zellweger, selected by the Ducks in the second round of the 2021 NHL Draft, recorded seven goals and 22 points in 76 games during the 2025-26 season. He enters the deal as a restricted free agent. The Sabres hold $13.799 million in salary cap space and currently have three defensemen under contract.
Anaheim lists restricted free agents Pavel Mintyukov and Tyson Hinds along with unrestricted free agents John Carlson, Jacob Trouba and Radko Gudas on its blue line.
