Bulls Edge Glasgow 22-21 in URC Semi-Final After Overcoming 18-Point Deficit

The Bulls defeated Glasgow Warriors 22-21 in a United Rugby Championship play-off semi-final at Murrayfield on Saturday. Glasgow Warriors led 21-10 at half-time after scoring two tries by Kyle Steyn and a penalty try. Dan Lancaster converted two of the scores.

The Bulls responded with tries by Johan Grobbelaar, Embrose Papier and Francois Klopper. Handre Pollard converted two of those tries and kicked one penalty. Glasgow Warriors finished the regular season at the top of the URC standings.

They had lost to Toulon in the quarter-final stage of the Champions Cup. Handre Pollard gave the Bulls an early penalty lead before he was sin-binned for a deliberate knock-on. Kyle Rowe threw to Kyle Steyn for Glasgow's first try.

Sione Tuipulotu offloaded for Steyn to score the second Glasgow try in almost the same spot. A rolling maul produced a penalty try for the hosts, and Ruan Nortje was yellow-carded in the aftermath. The TMO ruled against the Bulls on a potential try by Marcell Coetzee at a ruck.

Johan Grobbelaar touched down for the Bulls' first try, and Handre Pollard converted it, leaving Glasgow with a 21-10 half-time lead. Scott Cummings was sent to the bin early in the second period for repeated infringements. Embrose Papier skipped over for the Bulls' second try after the binning.

Handre Pollard's conversion attempt after that try was wide. Cameron Hanekom gained territory leading to Francois Klopper's try under the posts. Handre Pollard converted that score. The Bulls scored 19 unanswered points in the second half to take the lead.

Handre Pollard missed three penalties in a row with seven minutes remaining. Scrum after scrum failed to gain Glasgow the momentum they needed in the closing stages. The Bulls will contest their fourth URC Grand Final on 20 June.
