Bus Crashes Into Vehicles on I-95 in Virginia, Killing Five

A passenger bus struck six vehicles on southbound Interstate 95 in Stafford County, Virginia, early Friday morning, killing five people and injuring 34 others. The crash occurred around 2:35 a.m. near the Quantico exit and mile marker 146. Virginia State Police said traffic had slowed for an upcoming work zone when the bus failed to slow and struck the vehicles.

All five fatalities occurred in the vehicles hit by the bus.

Three of the injured were listed in critical condition and taken to hospitals. Southbound lanes remained closed seven hours after the crash, with traffic diverted onto Route 1. Northbound lanes reopened later in the morning.

Police said the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending. It was not immediately known what the bus was being used for or how many passengers were aboard. The preliminary investigation indicates that traffic was slowing southbound for an upcoming work zone.
