Byron Allen to Air Comedy Show in CBS Late-Night Slot Starting Friday

Allen rose to fame as a stand-up comic and performed on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" in 1979. TV. In 2018, Entertainment Studios acquired the parent company of the Weather Channel. Allen also purchased a controlling stake in Buzzfeed last week.

Allen said he will keep Buzzfeed content free and available on his streaming platform Local Now. He described the brand as having "a great following" and said he will not change the foundation built by co-founder Jonah Peretti. Allen is the second-largest stockholder in Starz and said he wants to become the controlling shareholder while keeping the network publicly traded.

A representative for Starz did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Allen previously explored deals with Tegna and the Washington Commanders that did not materialize. In 2024 he also attempted to acquire Paramount.
