California Chamber of Commerce endorses Democrat for governor for first time

The California Chamber of Commerce endorsed Xavier Becerra’s campaign for governor on Thursday. The board selected the Democrat over Republican Steve Hilton, marking the first time the organization has backed a Democratic candidate in a gubernatorial race.
CalChamber President and CEO Jennifer Barrera said the group chose Becerra because he is best positioned to deliver stability and certainty to California businesses. She added that the state needs collaboration rather than conflict. Both candidates presented their plans to the board at its quarterly meeting.
The chamber last endorsed a candidate in a governor’s race in 2010.
