Justice Department Investigating California Governor and His Wife
California Gov. Gavin Newsom said the Justice Department is examining records tied to him and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom. Federal agents have visited family members, friends and former staff in recent days.
Los Angeles TimesCalifornia Gov. Gavin Newsom said the Justice Department is investigating him and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom. Newsom stated that federal agents have knocked on the doors of family, friends and former employees in recent days, demanding records and reviewing years of documents.
Newsom described the effort as an attempt to find a crime rather than respond to one already identified. He said investigators are abusing the grand jury process and digging through unrelated documents. Newsom stated that if the goal is to find corruption, officials should look at the White House instead.
“Donald Trump picked the wrong target.”
Inquiry A source told NewsNation that whistleblowers raised concerns with the DOJ office in Sacramento, prompting the inquiry. The Justice Department did not respond to requests for comment, and the White House referred questions to the department. Newsom did not describe the specific allegations under review.
