California's homicide rate fell to 3.5 killings per 100,000 residents in 2025, the lowest level recorded since 1966, according to statistics released by the attorney general's office on Wednesday. The rate marks an 18 percent drop below pre-pandemic levels and continues a national decline that began after a 2020-2021 surge.
Clearance rates for homicide cases rose from 55 percent in 2021 to 79 percent last year.
