foxnews.comCampus Israel is a new platform that links Jewish students outside Israel with English-language degree programs at Israeli universities. It supplies application assistance, internship placement, and community support once students arrive. Fleur Hassan-Nahoum, special envoy for trade innovation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, developed the idea after observing limited awareness of Israeli academic options among Jewish students abroad. institutions.
Hassan-Nahoum said the October 7, 2023 attacks and subsequent campus protests prompted her to move the project forward. She described reports of antisemitic incidents at universities in the United States and elsewhere as a factor in the decision. The platform began as a position paper written during her time as deputy mayor of Jerusalem.
After October 7, she and co-founder Lisa Barkan converted the paper into an operational plan.
Students can schedule 30-minute consultations with education directors through the website. The digital portal, expected to launch within days, will list programs and allow direct applications while staff handle follow-up with universities. Hassan-Nahoum said all Israeli universities with international schools have agreed to participate.
Some institutions are preparing targeted campaigns for undergraduates considering postgraduate study in Israel, where certain master's programs cost between $10,000 and $20,000. She estimated that attracting 5 percent of the 80,000 to 100,000 Jewish college students in the United States each year would produce 4,000 to 5,000 participants annually.
The platform is initially focused on Jewish schools and community organizations before planned expansion to other student groups.
