Canada Advances to Rugby Sevens Semifinals with 29-14 Win Over Fiji

The Canadian women's rugby sevens team defeated Fiji 29-14 in a quarterfinal match on Saturday in Bordeaux, France. Savannah Bauder scored three tries and two conversions for Canada. Carmen Izyk and Pamphinette Buisa each scored one try.

Canada led 19-7 at halftime and extended the margin to 22 points before Fiji scored late. Reapi Ulunisau scored a try for Fiji in the 12th minute. Mariana Talatoka added one try and one conversion for Fiji late in the first half.

The Canadians will face New Zealand in a Cup semifinal on Sunday morning at Stade de Bordeaux. New Zealand defeated Canada in the third-place match at the HSBC SVNS Series stop in Valladolid, Spain last weekend. Australia will face the United States in the other Cup semifinal.

Canada finished pool play with a 2-1 record at the HSBC SVNS Series stop in Bordeaux. The team defeated Spain 14-12 and Great Britain 35-14 before losing to the United States 33-22. The Canadian women won silver at the 2024 Olympics and finished fourth at the Hong Kong leg of the HSBC SVNS Series in April.

The match between Canada and New Zealand is scheduled for Sunday morning at Stade de Bordeaux.
