Each group plays a round-robin schedule.
Teams earn three points for a win and one point for a draw. The top two teams from each group advance, along with the eight best third-place teams. Tiebreakers use points earned in head-to-head matches, goal difference, goals scored, overall goal difference, overall goals scored, and team conduct scores based on cards.
If teams remain tied, FIFA Men's World Ranking serves as the final tiebreaker. The 2026 World Cup is the largest edition to date, with coverage planned from all 16 host cities across three countries.
