Canadian Astronaut Jeremy Hansen to Leave Full-Time Role at Space Agency
Jeremy Hansen announced Monday he is leaving his full-time position at the Canadian Space Agency. The 50-year-old flew on NASA's Artemis II mission in April. He will continue supporting space work in a new capacity and remain a Royal Canadian Air Force reservist.

Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen announced Monday that he is stepping down from his full-time role at the Canadian Space Agency, months after completing NASA's Artemis II mission. " He added that he will continue serving as a reservist with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Hansen has spent 32 years in the Royal Canadian Air Force and 17 years as a Canadian Space Agency astronaut.
His earlier assignments include six days living underground in the 2013 CAVES program and seven days on the ocean floor during the 2014 NEEMO 19 mission. In 2017 he became the first Canadian to lead a NASA astronaut class. In April, Hansen and three American astronauts flew on Artemis II, the first crewed mission to the moon in more than 50 years.
The crew became the first humans to travel that far from Earth, the first to see the moon's far side with their own eyes, and the first to witness a solar eclipse from the moon. "Right away, you are humbled," Hansen told NBC News from space during the flight. " He said photographs from the mission do not capture the experience.
