Canadian National Railway Crew Escapes Train Car Surrounded by Wildfire Flames

Cbc reported. A video taken from inside the car shows the workers waiting for another train to cross at a meeting point, with flames visible through the windows. The railway temporarily suspended operations in the area as a precaution.

It also evacuated employees in the area and residents of the Town of Armstrong on Monday night, Cbc reported. Armstrong is among half a dozen communities under mandatory evacuations due to wildfires in northwestern Ontario. About 250 people live in the community, which lies roughly 250 kilometres north of Thunder Bay.

Footage from the train car circulated widely on social media. Kiiwetinoong NDP MPP Sol Mamakwa said the crew member who posted the video fears reprimand because taking videos violates company policy. "He wasn't sure if he was going to survive it," Mamakwa said.

Mamakwa said he stands with CN workers and hopes the affected crew members receive support from the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board. , due to wildfire activity, according to the Ontario Provincial Police North West Region. Nearly 150 wildfires are burning across northwestern Ontario.

The province has implemented a restricted fire zone in the region that prohibits open-air burning, including campfires, until further notice. Canadian National Railway said it remains in close contact with the Ministry of Natural Resources and local authorities as the situation evolves.

The safety of employees, the community and emergency responders remains the company's top priority, Cbc reported.
