Canva has experienced aggressive growth in recent years. The company was founded in 2013 and has fueled its growth mainly by expanding into enterprise B2B services and integrating AI into its software. The company now claims $4 billion in Annual Recurring Revenue and has been profitable for the past eight consecutive years; quite a feat for a company in the SaaS sector.
Now, Canva is shifting its AI offer up a gear with the launch of Canva AI 2.0. Just over a decade ago, Canva developed a software that transformed complex, expensive desktop software into a simple, powerful, and interoperable platform in the browser.
The company offers thousands of templates with intuitive drag-and-drop interfaces, making it one of the most popular design platforms that, the company says, is now used by more than a quarter of a billion people. Conversational Agentic Platform The new Canva AI 2.0 is powered by the company’s Frontier AI lab and is now a conversational, agentic platform that enables users to move from an initial idea to a finished creation on one platform.
The latest version uses a new architecture layer that has reimagined the entire design process. Users describe what they want in plain language and Canva will generate a fully editable design with structure, brand and layout. Designs can be refined and changed with further conversations, creating an organic and iterative process.
Agentic Orchestration enables users to harness the full suite of Canva tools. It understands intent, chooses the appropriate tools and then coordinates everything to create a design. Object-Based Intelligence lets users carry out precise editing without starting from scratch.
It allows the user to do things like change a font or tweak a color without affecting other elements of the design. Canva AI 2.0 also has a feature called Living Memory, which learns from the user by applying the kind of design and style it knows the user likes or prefers.
The system grows smarter over time with the more projects produced. Intelligent New Workflows Canva AI 2.0 uses Connectors to bring projects together in one place by unifying tools and workflows. Connect tools like Slack, Gmail, Google Drive, and Calendar and Canva AI can draw on conversations, content and schedules to create a project.
It can generate meeting summaries from Zoom transcripts, turn customer emails into personalized sales pitches or create company newsletters based on what it learns from activity across Slack. At launch, there will. be connectors for Slack, Notion, Zoom, Gmail, Google Drive and Google Calendar, with the promise of more to come.
Another new feature is the ability to set tasks that Canva AI 2.0 will then run automatically in the background, even when the user is offline. For example, it could be used to generate a batch of social media content every Friday, tailored for every channel and translated into the top ten languages spoken in the United States.
Alternatively, Canva AI can scan an email inbox each morning and create briefing documents for any upcoming meetings based on a calendar. The work is carried out in the background so it’s ready when the user logs in. Research Built In Research is an important aspect of designing creative content, so Canva AI now has web research tools built in.
Research can be run on demand or scheduled to work away in the background. Canva AI will gather and structure information from across the web to include in business proposals or market exploration. The results can be delivered in a preferred design and structure that’s fully editable for refinement and sharing.
” Users can connect their data and describe what they need then Canva AI can automatically apply a brand’s fonts, colors and style to any design. The tool can also be used to instantly update existing work by asking Canva AI to apply the latest brand parameters in a matter of seconds.
Not all designs are print based, much of it involves websites. For this, Canva AI can now support HTML importing. Users can describe any interactive idea and Canva AI will build a structured, interactive and fully designed creation to work across every device.
With HTML importing, Canva can unlock one of the fastest-growing AI formats. Instead of regenerating code for every change, users can import any HTML file or AI-generated experience into Canva and then edit it with Canva’s visual editor. Forms that collect responses in Canva Sheets can be added with interactive elements in presentations or published to a user’s own domain with SSO protection.
Fresh Sheets Sheets AI is another addition to Canva AI 2.0, which can create smarter spreadsheets. Describe what you need and Canva AI 2.0 will generate a fully structured and designed sheet, populated with real data and research. This feature can be used for budget trackers, project timelines, content calendars and research tables.
Canva says the sheets arrive structured, designed and filled with all the right data. Perhaps the most important feature of this new software is the Canva template library. It’s always been extensive and designed to remove the fear of a blank page, but with Canva AI 2.0 users can explore, remix, and make their own templates.
By starting with a basic template, Canva AI can be used to turn it into what the user wants. It’s a bit like leaning over the shoulder of a graphic artist and directing the project to turn it into a custom design. Frontier AI Lab At the core of Canva AI 2.0 is the company’s frontier AI lab, where more than 100 researchers across Canva Original Research and Exploration are building a new class of multimodal foundation models that are purpose-built for design work.
Canva says its first generation of models took more than two years to develop. Today, new models are being trained, evaluated and deployed in as little as a month, driven by advances in training infrastructure, model architectures and closed-loop reinforcement learning systems.
Canva’s research spans the full stack of visual AI, from image, video and style transfer to structured design generation and evaluation. The company’s proprietary models are optimized for output quality and speed, editability and real-world workflows.
The company says its models are up to 7 times faster and 30 times cheaper than comparable frontier alternatives. Canva Proteus, which enables Style Transfer, is 2 times faster and 23 times cheaper, while Canva Lucid Origin, which enables image generation, is 5 times faster and 30 times cheaper.
To support the scale of this work, Canva says it’s building a vertically integrated AI stack, including self-hosted training, large-scale reinforcement learning pipelines and optimized inference infrastructure to bring the technology to more than a quarter of a billion monthly active users.
That’s a lot of learning. Cooperation With Anthropic As part of the launch, Canva has also announced it is deepening its collaboration with Anthropic and bringing the power of Canva’s Design Engine and Visual Suite directly into Claude. The company says this marks the next chapter in a multi-year partnership between the two companies and accelerates Canva’s broader strategy to embed its platform across every surface where ideas are generated.
Users can now bring artifacts from AI platforms, including Claude and ChatGPT, directly into Canva. From there, they become instantly editable and collaborative using Canva’s simple drag-and-drop editor. They can be published as fully functional websites in just a few clicks.
As AI changes the way content is created, Canva says that leading platforms are integrating its product to help users move from draft generations to fully editable, structured and scalable work. ” Availability: Starting April 16, 2026, Canva AI 2.0 will launch as a research preview, rolling out to the first one million people who discover it on the Canva homepage.
From there, access will expand progressively to more users over the coming weeks.
