Cape Verde ranks as the most welcoming country in Africa for the LGBTQ+ community, ahead of South Africa, according to Equaldex. Make-up artist Leonardo Oliveira, known locally as Leo, applied finishing touches to a singer during a music video shoot in Mindelo while open about being a gay man. He worked among technicians and musicians wearing shorts and a shoulder-baring top.
Alessandro Monteiro took part in a rehearsal for the play "Font Flip is Burning" in the same city on May 24. The rehearsal and video production occurred without reported incidents of insult, attack or legal action. The island nation lies off the coast of West Africa.
