Brian Barry-Murphy stated he has felt nothing other than support from Vincent Tan. Cardiff City won promotion last season but has added only one permanent player ahead of its Championship return.
news.sky.comThe BBC reported that Cardiff City head coach Brian Barry-Murphy said he has received nothing other than support from owner Vincent Tan as the club prepares for its return to the Championship. Cardiff won promotion from League One last season under Barry-Murphy.
The team has signed only goalkeeper Nathan Trott on a permanent basis after his loan spell in the 2025-26 season and has made no other additions.
Barry-Murphy spent four weeks in Malaysia with Tan and his family during the summer. He described the visit as a privilege that gave him insight into the owner's ambitions. "It was a privilege for me to visit Malaysia and learn a lot about the history of the country, the history of Vincent and what he and his people stand for," Barry-Murphy said.
"His understanding of the team and what we did last season was beyond what I expected," he added. In June Tan converted £42 million of Cardiff's debt into equity. Barry-Murphy said the club's leadership supports transfer plans when they represent good value.
"Whenever we can explain to him (Tan), to Mehmet [Dalman, Cardiff's chairman] and to Ken [Choo, the club's chief executive] where we want to improve the squad and how we want to do it, and as long as it represents good value for the club, I've never felt anything other than support," he said.
Cardiff lost 6-0 to FC Midtjylland in a pre-season friendly on Saturday. The team will face Cork City on Tuesday.
