The St. Louis Cardinals acquired minor-league reliever Trey Pooser from the Tampa Bay Rays, yardbarker.com reported. Pooser completes the trade that sent middle reliever Chris Roycroft to the Rays last month.
Pooser, a 6-foot-4 right-handed pitcher, was selected by the Rays in the 10th round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of the University of Kentucky. He signed as a senior for a $72,000 bonus and has pitched primarily out of the bullpen in professional baseball.
This season he split time between two Single-A levels and posted a 3.44 ERA over 49 2/3 innings with a 21 percent strikeout rate and a 6 percent walk rate.
Roycroft has appeared in four games for the Rays since the trade and allowed six runs in eight innings. He surrendered a home run to Carlos Narváez during a mop-up role at Fenway Park on July 17, 2026. Roycroft had made seven appearances for St.
Louis earlier this season before being designated for assignment.
