Cardinals Plan to Give Carson Beck Starts This Season

Officials have stated they will assess the quarterback's performance before deciding whether to select another signal-caller in the 2027 draft. Head coach Mike LaFleur said the veteran quarterback is expected to start Week 1 but noted the player missed voluntary organized team activities.

LaFleur added that the absence puts the player behind in learning pre-snap terminology and cadences, though he said the player should be physically prepared.

The veteran holds $1.5 million in guaranteed money for 2026 and is seeking an increase. Newly signed backup Gardner Minshew is scheduled to receive $5.14 million in guarantees this year. Officials have indicated they will not match that figure even if the veteran opens the season as the starter.

Breer wrote that the starting job will go to either the veteran or Minshew at the beginning of the year. The same report said the team will monitor Beck's progress throughout the season. "I think it'll be either Jacoby Brissett or Gardner Minshew II to begin the year," Breer wrote.

" LaFleur said the player faces a challenge to secure the starting role because of the missed sessions. The coach stated the player has completed most physical work required and should adjust to game speed given prior experience.
