Emma Noakes, 34, married in April but her grandfather George Lacey could not attend because of his dementia. Staff at Glenburnie Lodge in Wenvoe, Vale of Glamorgan, organized a second ceremony the following day. The recreated event included a two-tier wedding cake, garden decorations, a balloon arch, and champagne. Care home staff helped Lacey walk Noakes down the aisle.

Noakes said she has always been close to her grandparents and described them as secondary parents. Her grandfather was one of the first residents when the home opened in 2024. Lacey was admitted to hospital in May 2024. His condition has worsened since then, and he no longer recognizes family members.

Watson, director of Glenburnie Lodge, said the staff wanted to create an occasion to remember for the resident and his family. Invites were sent to other residents and their families, who attended in wedding attire. Noakes said the event provided joy for the family after they had struggled with the adjustment to her grandfather's diagnosis.
