Began running brown less than two months after water was restored there at the direction of President Donald Trump. The U.S. Department of the Interior released footage in May showing water flowing at the fountain for the first time in seven years.
The water had been turned off since 2019 while the National Park Service worked on the lower plaza. The Trump administration also completed a $14 million makeover of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Workers applied a new dark blue coating to the basin to produce what officials called an "American flag blue" finish.
Days after the pool was refilled, algal blooms turned the water green and the lining peeled off. " The post was viewed more than 135,000 times. Newsweek contacted the Interior Department for comment outside standard working hours.
