The cat had been lost since 2021 and was brought to the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter in Georgetown. Shelter staff scanned the cat's microchip, which led to contacting the owners.
The cat was in good health upon arrival, with only a minor abrasion on its leg. Owner Angelique Wethereit received an email and a text notification about the microchip scan. She and her family identified the cat from a photo posted on the shelter's lost and found page.
The shelter reported returning 93 pets to their owners in March. Staff noted that the cat recognized its owner immediately upon reunion. The cat was described as friendly and in good spirits during its time at the shelter.
Leo Delgado, associated with the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter, stated that he had worked there since 2013 and had not seen a reunion after five years before this case. He described the event as notable. The cat cuddled with staff and showed happiness upon seeing its owner.
This reunion highlights the role of microchipping in pet identification. Pet owners in the area may benefit from such systems for lost animals. The shelter continues to handle reunions and adoptions as part of its operations.
