CBP Seizes 83 Pounds of Cocaine from Two Vehicles at Texas Bridges

Customs and Border Protection officers seized cocaine valued at more than $1.1 million from two vehicles at the Roma International Bridge and Gateway International Bridge in Texas on June 26, New York Post reported. The Roma seizure involved 60.49 pounds of cocaine worth $807,723 found in a 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe after it failed a canine inspection.

Officers recovered 22.84 pounds of cocaine worth $304,956 from a 2026 Toyota Sequoia during a secondary inspection at the Brownsville bridge.

Homeland Security Investigations special agents arrested the drivers of both vehicles and opened criminal investigations, New York Post reported. Both vehicles and the drugs were seized. The bridges cross the Rio Grande River from Mexico.

Laredo’s acting Director of Field Operations Paul Del Rincon said the simultaneous seizures at different ports of entry demonstrate the persistent drug threat officers confront daily. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin told lawmakers in late June that Mexican cartels remain a major threat to national security and that plazas cover Mexico’s northern border.

Mullin stated that the border wall creates choke points that assist CBP officers.

The Department of Homeland Security reported in May 2026 a record number of drug seizures at the halfway point of the year. Nationwide seizures of cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl and marijuana by weight rose 32 percent in May from the same month in 2024, while CBP seized 56 percent more drugs through May than in the same period of fiscal year 2024.
