Celebrity Row Remains Central to Knicks Game Experience
Longtime season ticket holder William Goldman described his decision to purchase Knicks tickets more than 56 years ago. Goldman said being at games in person was preferable to listening to radio broadcasts. The area known as celebrity row continues to feature well-known attendees at games.
nypost.comWilliam Goldman began attending Knicks games at the old arena on 50th Street. After the new arena opened 17 streets downtown he decided to buy season tickets. Goldman explained the choice during a 2010 interview while sitting courtside in his usual seat.
"By then, you had to," he said. "If you didn’t you had to watch the game on TV. " He noted that radio broadcasts by Marv Albert offered a strong alternative. Goldman nevertheless preferred to attend in person.
That preference guided his decision on April 6, 1970. Even 40 years after that night Goldman said the question of whether he had second thoughts about buying the tickets struck him as odd. He laughed when asked about it.
