Celtics Offered Brown and Picks for Antetokounmpo, Who Went to Miami
Boston offered Jaylen Brown and two first-round picks to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Bucks instead accepted a Miami Heat package of three first-round picks and young players. Bill Simmons said the failed deal leaves Brown’s future in Boston uncertain.

Brown averaged a career-high 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists this season while leading the Celtics during Jayson Tatum’s extended absence.
“I don’t think [the Celtics] would have entertained this at the end of the season,” Simmons said. “I think something definitely shifted as we went along, and I am not convinced he’s going to be on the team in October. ” Brown has publicly defended his comments that the 2024-25 season was his favorite despite the team’s first-round playoff exit.
“I say this, and I stand on this again. Clip this up. This was my favorite season of my career,” Brown said.
Simmons noted that Brown’s handling of the next 48 hours will be closely watched. “It’s a bizarre situation,” Simmons said. “The question is, does Jaylen do a six-hour Twitch stream (Tuesday)? ” ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith advised Brown to stay quiet after the comments drew criticism.
Brown previously doubled down on his remarks during a Twitch stream shortly after the Celtics’ elimination. The Celtics must now decide whether to pursue another trade for Brown or retain him heading into the offseason.
