Center-left candidate holds first major rally ahead of presidential decision

Raphaël Glucksmann will hold his first major rally in the Paris suburb of Aubervilliers on Saturday, June 13. The center-left MEP has given himself three months to decide whether to run for president. The gathering follows a large event held by radical left rival Jean-Luc Mélenchon in nearby Saint-Denis the previous week.

Party members received instructions not to mention attendance numbers, though a 2,000-participant target had circulated internally.

Rally goals Glucksmann aims to recall the roots of his political engagement that led to success in the 2024 European elections. He also seeks to demonstrate support while pursuing endorsement from the Socialists. Four prominent figures are scheduled to speak before him.

An economist and climate diplomat will address environmental protection as a central element of his project. A journalist specializing in the war in Ukraine will discuss reinforcing political Europe. A Rwandan author and longtime friend will highlight his commitment to human rights and opposition to mass crimes.

A chemist will speak in favor of hospitals, biomedical research, and cancer treatment.
