ZeroHedgeCentrus Energy signed a contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to move its existing uranium enrichment cascade at the American Centrifuge Plant in Piketon, Ohio, from government demonstration work to commercial operations. The centrifuges can produce about 900 kilograms of high-assay low-enriched uranium per year.
The company has delivered roughly 1,900 kilograms to the department since production started in 2023.
The project began in 2019 as a technology demonstration under a Department of Energy contract to license, build, and operate a small centrifuge cascade. In 2022 the department shifted the effort to limited production. A 2025 extension continued that work through June 30, 2026. The new contract completes the move from demonstration phases to full commercial production at the Piketon site.
