CFL bars quarterback from league registration this season
The league said Friday it will not register a contract for the quarterback or allow any team to add him to its negotiation list. The decision follows the NFL's choice not to hold a supplemental draft earlier in the week.

"Upholding the integrity of the league and ensuring fair competition are paramount to the CFL," the league said in a statement. "The allegations involving Brendan Sorsby are serious and concerning." Sorsby had not publicly expressed interest in playing in Canada. His options narrowed after the NFL decided Tuesday not to hold a supplemental draft.
Background on eligibility issues Sorsby admitted to placing thousands of bets on college and professional sports totaling more than $90,000, including 40 wagers on Indiana football while a member of that team. He had sought to regain eligibility at Texas Tech for the 2026 season but withdrew a lawsuit against the NCAA after receiving a temporary injunction.
Sorsby's attorney told ESPN that the NFL's decision not to hold a supplemental draft violated the collective bargaining agreement and that further action with the NFL Players Association is possible.
