Chapman says he would demand apology from Yankees GM if traded back
Chapman detailed a 2024 dispute with Cashman that ended his Yankees tenure. The comments came amid trade speculation surrounding the Boston closer.
ForbesBoston Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman said he would demand an apology from New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman if traded back to the Yankees. Chapman made the statements to Cuban sports reporter Alfre Alvarez. He said the demand would apply if the Red Sox traded him to New York ahead of the July deadline.
Chapman recounted a conversation that occurred one month before the end of the 2024 regular season. com’s Bob Klapisch. Chapman said he replied that he would play and do his best and that the decision would be Cashman’s.
He added that the exchange led him to believe his season was over. Chapman missed a mandatory postseason workout before the American League Division Series. He stated he was unaware of the workout because of the earlier conversation with Cashman.
Cashman confronted Chapman about the absence. Chapman said he offered to meet face-to-face the following morning, but the meeting did not occur. The Yankees formally cut ties with Chapman shortly after the missed workout and the unheld meeting.
