Character.AI Debuts Three AI-Generated Microdrama Series

Character.AI announced the debut of c.ai Series on July 9, 2026. The service consists of short-form, episodic animated videos made almost entirely with generative AI for phone viewing and interaction. The company launched three projects.

Last Summer is a romance story with an anime aesthetic involving secret admirers. The Nighttime Game centers on friends playing a deadly card game. Eden Fall follows elite MMO players in a virtual reality setting.

Each series opens with 10 episodes under two minutes long. The first eight episodes are free for all Character.AI users, while the final two sit behind paywalls. The initial three series were created by a human-led in-house studio team that used AI as part of the production workflow.

Character.AI enlisted Hollywood screenwriters to develop scripts and creators to write story bibles. Those scripts entered the company’s proprietary pipeline to generate visuals and audio. Development of the first three series took a few weeks.

Character.AI CEO Karandeep Anand stated that microdramas represent a continuation of the company’s broader storytelling and entertainment platform strategy. The Verge reported that Anand described the move as a natural extension of what users already do on the platform. At launch, c.ai Series are available only to users over 18.

The company plans to allow creators to produce original microdramas with its AI tools in the future.
