Charity Commission Begins Regulatory Compliance Case Into Anti-Slavery Collective
The Charity Commission has opened a regulatory compliance case into Anti-Slavery Collective, co-founded by Princess Eugenie in 2017, to assess concerns about charitable spending. The move follows earlier media reports of low programme spending relative to income and salaries. The case is not a statutory inquiry and the Commission has made no findings.
pinknews.co.ukThe Charity Commission has opened a regulatory compliance case into Anti-Slavery Collective to continue assessing concerns raised about charitable spending at the organisation. A Charity Commission spokesperson told BBC News the case will involve further engagement with the charity’s trustees. The regulator has not put a timeframe on how long its enquiries will take.
It is not a statutory inquiry and the Commission has not yet made any findings or drawn any conclusions. The opening of the regulatory compliance case represents an escalation in the watchdog’s engagement with the charity.
Anti-Slavery Collective was co-founded by Princess Eugenie in 2017. The 36-year-old stepped down as patron of Anti-Slavery International earlier this year after holding the role for seven years. Anti-Slavery International thanked Princess Eugenie for her support and confirmed the relationship had ended.
3m. Much of that income came from a major gala fundraiser held in London in 2023. Anti-Slavery Collective’s accounts for the year ending 5 April 2025 show donations of £48,000.
It spent £191,537 on salaries in the year ending 5 April 2025. BBC News approached the charity multiple times for comment in light of the latest controversy surrounding Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, Eugenie’s father, and the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, but it has not responded.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has denied any wrongdoing from his association with Jeffrey Epstein. Princess Beatrice is 37 years old. Being named among the Epstein files is not an indication of wrongdoing.
The charity, whose focus includes victims of sex trafficking, has been described by royal biographer Andrew Lownie as a "preposterously inappropriate cause" for Eugenie to be involved with.
