Tim Bilton announced Tuesday on Instagram that his stage 4 cancer is now dormant. The 54-year-old chef posted a photograph of himself embracing his wife Adele in their butchers shop after an oncologist confirmed his latest scans were clear. GB News reported that Bilton described feeling "grateful, scared and emotional" upon receiving the news.
He was first diagnosed with melanoma in his eye in March 2013. The disease returned in August 2015 as a hard lump on the left side of his face, leading to an eight-hour operation and six weeks of radiotherapy at Sheffield's Royal Hallamshire Hospital. In 2019 the cancer was found in his left leg and kidney.
Doctors had initially given him 12 months to live after the stage-four diagnosis. Bilton, who appeared twice on BBC's Great British Menu and on Channel 5's On The Farm, wrote that he does not look or talk the same and cannot eat foods he once enjoyed.
He said he lost his sense of taste entirely during radiotherapy, comparing the treatment to "putting my head into a microwave," and noted that his weight fell from 15 stone to nine stone.
His jaw and knee remain damaged. GB News reported that fellow television stars and fans left messages of support on the post, calling the update the "best news EVER" and praising his strength and resilience.
