Chelsea signs Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa

Morgan Rogers has joined Chelsea from Aston Villa for a fee of £117 million. The 23-year-old England international forward signed a seven-year contract, becoming the club's record signing. The agreement was reached on Saturday.

Rogers told the club website he was drawn to the project under new manager Xabi Alonso. “For me, Chelsea are the biggest club in London and a club I’ve always admired since I was a kid,” he said. ” The forward returned from the World Cup, where England finished third after a 2-1 semi-final loss to Argentina in Atlanta last Wednesday and a 6-4 victory over France on Saturday.

He started both matches. He scored 31 goals in 125 appearances under Unai Emery and helped the club reach the top four and the Europa League last season.

Chelsea completed four summer signings under Alonso, adding defender Marco Palestra, striker Emmanuel Emegha and winger Geovany Quenda. An earlier attempt to sign Granit Xhaka from Sunderland in June did not succeed after the clubs could not agree on valuation. The transfer marks one of the largest outlays during BlueCo's ownership.

Chelsea finished 10th in the league and were eliminated in the Champions League last 16 by Paris Saint-Germain last season.
