Chicago Cubs Sweep Mets 4-3 in Extras to Reach 44-37

The Chicago Cubs defeated the New York Mets 4-3 in 10 innings at Citi Field, completing a four-game sweep, yardbarker.com reported. The victory on June 25 or 26 gave the Cubs a 44-37 record and marked their first season sweep of the Mets since 2021. Matthew Boyd started and pitched 4.2 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and four walks while striking out four.

The Cubs built a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning by capitalizing on Mets errors. Pete Crow-Armstrong delivered a tiebreaking RBI double in the top of the 10th inning. He finished 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Trent Thornton pitched a scoreless 10th to earn the win. In roster moves, the Cubs traded infielder Cole Mathis to the Mets for left-hander David Peterson, who has a 6.09 ERA. They also placed pitcher Edward Cabrera on the 15-day injured list with a left hamstring strain and designated pitcher Yosver Zulueta for assignment.

The team activated Matthew Boyd from the injured list. Manager Craig Counsell said pitcher Ben Brown was diagnosed with a stress reaction in his neck that will require at least one month of limited activity. Teammates describe Pete Crow-Armstrong as the “heartbeat” and “spark plug” of the Cubs.
