Chiefs Receiver Rashee Rice Serving 30-Day Jail Term After Probation Violation
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is serving a 30-day jail sentence in Dallas after testing positive for marijuana in violation of probation terms. The sentence stems from a 2024 highway crash that injured multiple people.
nypost.comKansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice began serving a 30-day jail sentence in Dallas last week after testing positive for marijuana, violating the terms of his probation. The sentence follows Rice's guilty plea in July 2025 to two third-degree felony charges: collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury.
He received deferred adjudication and five years of probation after the 2024 crash on a Dallas highway.
Rice has missed the Chiefs' voluntary organized team activities this week and will also miss the team's mandatory minicamp scheduled for June 9-11. He is scheduled for release on June 16. Chiefs coach Andy Reid addressed the situation Thursday, stating the team has discussed the matter with the NFL and that no further league punishment has been indicated.
"When he gets back, we've got to get him caught up and doing what he needs to do," Reid said.
One week before his sentencing, Rice underwent surgery on his right knee to remove loose debris causing inflammation. He is expected to be sidelined for two months but is projected to be ready for training camp. The NFL previously suspended Rice for six games last season under its personal conduct policy related to the same incident.
