The governor of Chihuahua appeared for questioning Wednesday at Mexico's federal prosecutor's office in Mexico City over an April 19 crash that killed two CIA agents and two Mexican investigators during a drug-lab raid in her state.

April Incident Two CIA agents died in the crash while accompanying soldiers and state prosecutors during the raid of a drug lab in Chihuahua. Two Mexican investigators also died. The state attorney general's office identified the Mexican casualties as first commander of the state investigation agency Pedro Román Oseguera Cervantes and officer Manuel Genaro Méndez Montes.

Sheinbaum ordered an investigation, stating the operation may have violated national security laws that bar unauthorized foreign agents from operating inside Mexico. Anti-drug operations are the sole responsibility of the federal government, she said.

Mexico's Ministry of Security stated one U.S. agent entered the country as a visitor and the other with a diplomatic passport. "None had formal accreditation to participate in operational activities in national territory," the ministry said. " The CIA declined to comment.
