China adds U.S. rare earth firms to export control list
China placed two U.S. rare earth producers and eight other American companies on its export control list, citing national security. The move follows the Pentagon’s recent addition of several Chinese firms to a military-support roster and ends a lull in such restrictions since last October.

China has added MP Materials and USA Rare Earth to its export control list, barring them from obtaining dual-use items from China that can serve both commercial and military purposes. The Commerce Ministry said the action safeguards national security and interests. It also bars organizations and individuals worldwide from transferring or providing such items originating in China.
“The decision ends a monthslong lull in China’s use of such restrictions against U.S. companies following last October’s summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.”
The Group of Seven countries recently agreed to limit imports of rare earths and permanent magnets from any single non-bloc country to below 60 percent by 2030. China accounts for around 60 percent of global rare earth supply.
