China Says Anthropic Claude Code Has Security Back-Door

The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology warned on Wednesday that Anthropic's Claude Code artificial intelligence coding tool contains a security back-door vulnerability. Cnbc reported that the ministry said the vulnerability poses a serious threat because the tool can send sensitive information, including a user's location and identity, to a remote server without consent. 196.

Those versions were released from April 2 to June 29, according to Anthropic's website. 204. Alibaba ordered its employees to stop using Anthropic tools for work starting July 10, Cnbc confirmed. Last month Anthropic accused Alibaba of attempting to extract its AI capabilities, which are not officially available in China.

Alibaba did not comment on the accusations at the time. In March a Xiaomi AI developer stated at a state-organized forum that many people in China were using Claude Code. Anthropic did not immediately respond to a Cnbc request for comment.
