China EV Deliveries Fall 7 Percent in June While Remaining Above One Million Units

Mainland China delivered 1.04 million pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in June, down 7 percent from the same month a year earlier, according to preliminary data from the China Passenger Car Association reported by the South China Morning Post.

The decline marked the sixth consecutive month of year-on-year drops even as manufacturers offered promotions to draw buyers. Deliveries for the first half of 2026 totaled 4.73 million units, 13 percent below the level recorded in the first half of 2025.

The figures cover the world’s largest automotive market. Tian Maowei, sales manager at Yiyou Auto Service in Shanghai, said weak consumer sentiment is weighing on the market. Shoppers are holding back in anticipation of further price cuts by car brands, he stated.

Only BYD, Leapmotor and Xiaomi among Chinese EV assemblers are currently profitable. Roughly 20 other manufacturers produce both electric and gasoline-powered vehicles.
